Recipe Introduction
"This is one of the biggest throwbacks of my entire childhoodreally one of those clichs that my mom used to make me as a kid. But this stuff is...for lack of a better term...a perfect food. Thank you, Mom, for all the times you made this for me. It made bad days turn into great days and taught me the power of a simple recipe, and I still crave it to this day! This makes a big batch of cinnamon-sugar for you to keep in your pantry to use when you need it."
List of Ingredients
Cinnamon-Sugar:
◦ cup granulated sugar
◦ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
◦ 1 tablespoons ground cinnamon
◦ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (optional)
◦ 4 thick slices sandwich-style bread
◦ 6 tablespoons salted butter, softened
Recipe
Make the cinnamon-sugar: In a small airtight container or jar, thoroughly mix the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using). This will keep for a very long time in the pantry.
Toast the bread in a toaster to your desired color. Immediately butter with 1 tablespoons butter per slice.
Before the butter completely melts, sprinkle generously with cinnamon-sugar. Slice on the diagonal. Enjoy and savor every single nostalgic bite while hot.
Serves 2
❧ Notes:
I recommend using a whole, unsliced loaf for this and slicing the bread yourself so you can get nice, thick slices
To change up the flavors, you can first brown the butter and then brush it on, or you can add a dollop of whipped mascarpone on top of each slice of toast.
