Maple Pigs in a Blanket

Recipe Introduction
"Almost everyone loves a good pig in a blanket. These piglets make a pop-in-your-mouth breakfast snack just as easily as they do a cocktail nibble. Store-bought puff pastry pulled from the freezer is your flaky friend, as it will thaw in 30 minutes and be ready to roll, stuff, wrap, or layer."
List of Ingredients
◦ 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed according to package instructions
◦ 2 tablespoons maple syrup, plus more for serving
◦ 18 cooked small breakfast sausage links (about 1 pound)
◦ 1 large egg
Recipe
Preheat the oven to 425 F with the rack in the center position. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, foil, or a silicone baking pad.
Roll out the puff pastry to a 12-inch square. Brush the maple syrup over the entire surface of the pastry. Cut the dough into thirds and then into thirds again to form 9 squares. Cut each square in half diagonally to make 18 triangles.
Place a breakfast sausage link on the lower third of each triangle and roll up, making sure to place each bundle seam-side down on the lined baking sheet. Whisk together the egg and 1 teaspoon water in a small bowl. Brush each bundle with egg wash and bake until golden brown, 16 to 18 minutes.
Serve immediately with maple syrup on the side.
