Lucille's Watermelon Preserves

Peel rind of watermelon that is not ripe (not green). Cut or chop into 1/2-inch cubes or strips, leaving as much of the firm pulp on rind as possible.
To 4 cups diced or sliced melon, add 3 cups sugar, 3 lemons or 2 lemons and 1 orange that has been sliced fine and seeded. Let boil slowly, about 2 hours until the rind is clear and juice is thick. Put in airtight jars. (No cooking after sealing.)
