    1 pound filo dough

    3 cups walnuts, chopped fine
    1-1/2 cups sugar
    2 tablespoons sugar
    1 cup water
    1 tablespoon Rosewater
    2 tablespoons Rosewater
    3/4 pound drawn butter
    1/2 lemon

    Using half the filo dough, make layers, spreading melted butter between each layer in a 12x16" pan. Mix nuts, sugar and rosewater and spread on top. Place remaining dough in same manner over nuts, and top with remaining butter. Cut into diamonds and bake at 325 until browned. Meanwhile, combine the syrup
    ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook until slightly thickened. Remove lemon. Pour cooled syrup over hot baked baqlawa, or hot syrup over cooled baqlawa. Bake at 325 for at least 1 hour--maybe more. Pre-heat oven. After cooled and set (for about 3 hours), remove from pan onto wire rack. Keep covered
    with paper towel.
