    List of Ingredients

    1 cup sugar
    1/2 cup butter
    4 eggs -- separate out yolks
    1/2 cup milk
    2 cups flour
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/2 cup unsweetened chocolate -- shaved
    5 teaspoons boiling water

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan and line with waxed paper (I'd use parchment paper); grease waxed paper, if using. In a large bowl, cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy. In a small bowl, beat egg yolks with a rotary beater. Add to creamed mixture; blend well. Stir in milk. Sift flour, salt and baking powder together 3 times. In a small bowl, dissolve shaved chocolate in boiling water. Add to creamed mixture alternately with flour mixture; start and end with dry ingredients. Beat well after each addition. In a large bowl and using a rotary beater, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gently fold into chocolate batter; blend thoroughly. Ease batter into prepared pan. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until cake test done. Cool cake in pan 10 minutes before turning out onto cooling rack. When cool, drizzle tops and sides with favorite chocolate icing. Serves 16.
