    2-1/4 c. flour
    1/2 c. Dutch-processed cocoa powder
    1 t. baking soda
    1/2 t. salt
    2 sticks unsalted butter at room temperature
    3/4 c. granulated sugar
    3/4 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
    2 large eggs
    2 t. vanilla extract
    1 (11.5 oz.) bag semisweet chocolate chips
    1 c. chopped walnuts


    Heat oven to 375. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt into a medium-size bowl. In a large bowl, beat the butter with an electric mixer on medium-high until creamy, about 1 minute. Add both the sugars; beat until the mixture is fluffy, about 2 minutes. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla until well blended. On low speed, beat the flour mixture into the butter mixture until well blended. Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop by heaping tablespoonful onto ungreased baking sheets, about 2 inches apart. Bake until lightly golden, 9 to 11 minutes.

    Makes 3 dozen.
