    Apple-Oatmeal Crumbles

    1 cup quick-cooking oats
    1 cup whole wheat flour
    1/3 cup packed brown sugar
    1 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. ground allspice
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    3 Tbsp. maple-flavored syrup
    1 cup unsweetened applesauce
    1/2 cup finely chopped peeled apple
    1/4 cup chopped walnuts


    Heat oven to 350F. Spray 8" square pan with Pam. Mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice and baking soda in large bowl. Stir in oil and syrup until mixture is crumbly; reserve 1/2 cup for topping. Press remaining mixture firmly in bottom of pan. Bake 10 minutes or until set. Cool 10 minutes. Spread applesauce over baked layer. Sprinkle apple over applesauce. Sprinkle reserved mixture and walnuts over apple. Bake about 15 minutes or until top is light brown; cool completely. Cut into squares. Makes 16.
