    Crock Boston Brown Bread

    1 c sifted flour
    1 ts baking powder
    1 ts soda
    1 ts salt
    a c yellow corn meal
    1 c whole wheat flour
    1 c chopped nuts (opt)
    3/4 c dark molasses
    2 c buttermilk
    1 c raisins or dates

    Sift flour with baking powder, soda and salt. Stir in cornmeal and
    whole wheat flour. Add remaining ingredients, beat well. Pour batter
    into greased and floured 2 lb coffee can. Pour 2 cups water into
    a crock pot and set can inside. Place aluminum foil over top and
    fold down around edge of cooker. Cover and bake on high for 3-4
    hours. Remove and let cool 1 hour before unmoulding. Slice and
    serve with cream cheese.
