    Spiced Chili

    Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

    1 1/2 pounds ground beef
    1/4 cup chopped onion
    2 garlic cloves -- minced
    1 (16-ounce) can kidney beans -- rinsed and drained
    1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
    1 (14-1/2-ounce) can stewed tomatoes -- cut up
    1/2 cup water
    1 bay leaves
    1/8 cup chili powder
    1/2 tablespoon salt
    1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
    1/2 tablespoon dried basil
    1/2 tablespoon Italian seasoning
    1/2 tablespoon dried thyme
    1/2 tablespoon pepper
    1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
    1/2 Tablespoon cumin -- *I added this
    Shredded cheddar cheese and additional
    chopped onions -- optional

    In a large skillet, cook beef, onion and garlic over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Transfer to a 5-qt. slow cooker. Stir in the beans, tomato sauce, tomatoes, water and seasonings. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours. Discard bay leaves. If desired, serve in bread bowls and garnish with cheese and onions.
