    List of Ingredients

    1 cup shortening
    2 cups sugar
    4 eggs
    3 cups sifted cake flour
    2 1/2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 cup milk
    1 tsp almond extract
    1 tsp vanilla extract


    1 Cream shortening; gradually add sugar, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    2 Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix after each addition. Stir in flavorings.
    3 Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9-inch round cakepans. Bake at 375F for 20 to 25 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes; remove from pans, and let cool completely on wire racks. Frost as desired.
    4 Yield: one 3-layer cake.
    5 Yellow Cupcakes: Spoon batter into paper-lined muffin pans, filling each cup half full. Bake at 375F for 20 minutes. Remove from pans, and let cool on wire racks. Frost as desired.
    6 Yield: 3 dozen.
