Vienna Chocolate Cake

2 1/2 cups of flour
2 cups of sugar
2 teaspoons of baking soda
6 tablespoons of Hershey's cocoa
1 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of white vinegar
10 tablespoons of vegetable oil
2 teaspoons of vanilla
2 cups of cold water
Sift the dry ingredients together.
Add the liquids and beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
Pour into an ungreased 9 x 13-inch pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F. for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick tested in
the center comes out clean.
Cool and frost.
Butter Cream Frosting
1/2 cup of Crisco shortening
1 stick of butter or margarine
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of milk
Beat together the Crisco shortening and butter or margarine.
Add the vanilla and sugar mixing until smooth.
Warm the milk and add slowly while mixing.
Add only enough milk to dissolve the sugar and get a smooth creamy
This may only be 3/4 to 1 cup of the milk.
Frost the cooled cake and sprinkle with the chopped walnuts and chocolate
Warm the 1 cup of milk then add the sugar to the milk. Stir until dissolved
and let the milk cool. Slowly add to the recipe and beat until creamy and
smooth. If you want an even sweeter frosting, add 1 cup of confectioners
sugar at the end of the recipe.
