    MO: Bay Mule Mocktail

"Far too often to I hear requests at my restaurant for 'kiddie cocktails, says Wesley Kenney head bartender at Perennial Virant in Chicago, "The sad truth is that a kiddie cocktail is full of artificial sweeteners, coloring agents, and other ingredients I wouldn't want to drink.

Inspired by classic cocktails, the Cape Cod and the Moscow Mule, I came up with a great alternative for everyone. This drink is fun for kids because it's recognizable, made with real ingredients, and tastes great.

    Ingredients:
1 tablespoon pure cranberry juice (not cocktail)
     1 tablespoon lime juice
1 tablespoon simple syrup (see Note)
1/2 cup ginger ale (preferably Goose Island)
     Cranberry slices for garnish

    Preparation
    1. Combine the cranberry juice, lime juice, and simple syrup in a glass. Add ice to almost fill the glass, then pour in the ginger ale. Garnish with the cranberry slices.

Note: In a small sauce pot bring 1 cup of water to a boil, then stir in 1 cup of sugar until fully dissolved. Chill until cold. This will keep for several weeks in a jar in the refrigerator.
