    Tropical Coconut Bars

    List of Ingredients




    1/3 cup butter
    2/3 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
    1 egg
    1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    1/3 cup milk
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    1 cup rolled oats
    1/2 cup chopped macadamia nuts, pecans, walnuts, or other nuts
    1/2 cup flaked coconut
    Orange Glaze, below

    Recipe



    Cream butter and brown sugar; add egg and beat well. Combine flour, salt and soda; add to first mixture alternately with milk and vanilla, beating after each addition. Stir in oats, nuts, and coconut.
    Bake at 350� in a greased 13x9x2-inch baking pan for about 20 to 25 minutes, or until browned lightly.

    While baking, prepare glaze.
    Orange Glaze

    1/3 cup sugar
    3 tablespoons orange juice
    1 tablespoon grated orange peel
    Combine ingredients in a saucepan and boil until syrupy. Spread glaze on cookies while they are still hot. After coconut bars are glazed, cut in squares and remove to a rack.
