    1 loaf Italian bread cut on a slight diagonal into 1 1/2-inch
    (4 cm) slices
    1 cup (250 ml) extra-virgin olive oil
    12-16 large cloves garlic, finely chopped
    1/2 cup (125 ml) freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional)


    Place the slices of bread on a baking sheet and drizzle the oil over
    them. Divide the garlic between the slices, followed by the optional
    Parmesan cheese, and let sit at room temperature for 1 to 2 hours.
    Cook in a preheated 425F (220C) oven until warmed through and crunchy
    around the edges, about 6 to 8 minutes. For crisper bread, place
    under a preheated broiler for a few seconds. Serves 4 to 6.
