Chocolate Cherry Cake

1 box devil's food cake mix
1 small can (21 oz.) cherry pie filling
1 tsp. almond extract
Place all ingredients in mixer bowl. Beat at low speed for one minute to blend. Increase speed to medium, and beat two minutes longer. Pour into a lightly sprayed 13" x 9" x 2" pan and smooth top with a spatula to level. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 - 35 minutes, or until it pulls away from sides of pan and smells done. Cool on rack.
Good plain. Or spread with fudge frosting and scatter finely chopped, well-drained maraschino cherries over. Or top each serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with fudge sauce poured over. Or top each serving with a dollop of whipped cream crowned with a maraschino cherry. Or sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. (Confectioners' sugar sifted with a bit of cocoa powder is delicious on chocolate things.) Enjoy!
