    Creamed English Peas

    1 tbsp oil
    1/4 stick butter
    1/4 cup flour
    ½ cup water (including that drained from can of peas)
    ½ cup Carnation milk
    16 oz. can green peas


    Recipe



    Open a can of peas, leave the lid in the top of the can for
    holding back the peas. In a skillet, heat the oil, then melt the
    butter in it. Once butter has melted add flour and stir
    to make a golden roux. Just before the roux starts to brown
    add the liquid from the peas and, if needed, add water
    to make ½ cup. As this makes the roux, mash out
    any lumps. As it starts to thicken, add milk. When it gets thick
    add the peas, mix well while still heating, then
    serve.
