WHITE TEXAS SHEET CAKE

List of Ingredients




CAKE:
1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 egg whites, unbeaten
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 3/4 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla




Recipe



Combine shortening, sugar, and egg whites; mix well. Add flour, salt, baking soda,and mix till well blended. Add buttermilk, almond extract, and vanilla, stirring till mixed. Pour in a jelly roll pan. Bake at 350 degrees, 20 min. Cool cake for 5 min.


FROSTING:
1/2 c. butter or margarine.
1/3 c. buttermilk
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. coconut (optional)
1/2 c. chopped pecans (optional)


While cake is cooling, combine frosting ingredients in saucepan, and heat, stirring constantly, until dissolved and well blended. Spread on warm cake.
