Doughnuts: Cake Doughnuts

- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 5 tablespoons melted shortening
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter
- Vegetable spray or cooking oil
Instructions
- Beat eggs until foamy in a large mixing bowl. Once eggs have become foamy, slowly add sugar, beating continually. Stir in milk, shortening and vanilla.
- Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well. Cover and chill the dough for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spray or grease the baking sheet with vegetable oil or cooking spray.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/2" thickness. Cut out using a doughnut cutter and place on a baking sheet 1 inch apart.
- Bake until golden brown, approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
- Tips: For a cinnamon sugar coating, brush doughnut with melted butter and roll in a mixture of 1 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
