    List of Ingredients


    • 3 1/2 cups flour
    • 4 1/2 t. baking powder
    • 1 t. salt
    • 1/2 t. cinnamon
    • 1 t. nutmeg
    • 3 T. shortening
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 2 eggs well beaten
    • 1 cup milk with 1 t. vanilla added
    • About 1/2 cup sifted flour


    Instructions


    1. Sift together first 5 ingredients.

    2. Work shortening in medium sized bowl until creamy. Add sugar gradually while continuing to work until light.

    3. Add eggs; beat well with spoon. Add flour mixture alternately with milk and vanilla, blending well after each addition.

    4. Add enough of the 1/2 cup of flour to make easily handled dough. Roll on floured board until 1/2 inch thick. Use floured doughnut cutter.

    5. Fry in 1 1/2 inches of cooking oil and turn when raised to surface. Turn often. Drain on paper towels.

    6. Place in bag with confectioners sugar or granulated sugar and shake.
