This recipe evolved from a failed batch of Apple Pie Jam. It didn't set, and the result was so good over ice cream that we adapted it using Clear Jel.

Apple Pie a la Mode Ice Cream Topping

4 cups Granny Smith apples -- finely chopped
1 cup sugar -- *see Note
1 cup dark brown sugar -- *see Note
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons Clear Jel

Cook and stir until thickened. Pour into clean, hot jars. Cap with two-piece lids and process in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes.

*Note: I'd reduce the sugar for sweeter apples.
