    French Apple Slices

    Apple pie in a cake pan----

    List of Ingredients




    Dough:
    2C flour
    1/2t salt
    3/4C shortening
    2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
    1T lemon juice
    7T water
    Filling:
    8 medium apples
    1/4t salt
    1T flour
    1C sugar
    1/2t cinnamon
    1/2t nutmeg
    Icing:
    3/4C powdered sugar
    2T milk

    Recipe



    For dough:
    Sift flour & salt together. Cut in shortening with pastry blender or 2 knives as for pie crust until mixture resembles coarse meal; set aside. Beat yolks slightly, add lemon juice & water; add to dough & stir until dough is formed. Divide dough in 2 with one section a little larger than the other. Roll larger piece to fit bottom & sides of 9x13 inch ungreased pan.
    Peel & core apples, slice very thin. Combine all other ingredients and mix with apples; spread over bottom dough. Roll top crust to 9x13 inches. Place over apples. Seal the edges well. Cut steam vents in top. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Mix icing ingredients together and dribble over while still warm.
