GrandMother Grants German Chocolate Cake

Best cake in the world!! Brings back my childhood memories of my Mother.
List of Ingredients
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 c. Crisco
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 4 eggs
- pinch of salt
- 1 pkg. German sweet chocolate
- Filling**
- 1 1/2 c. evaporated milk
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp. butter
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 1/2 c. chopped pecans
- 1 1/2 c. coconut
Instructions
- Dissolve chocolate in 1/3 cup boiling water. Cool
- Sift flour, sugar and salt into bowl.
- Add Crisco and milk to which soda has been added.
- Beat until well mixed.
- Add 1 egg at a time.
- Add chocolate and vanilla.
- Mix only enough to blend together.
- Bake in 3 layers at 350 degrees.
- Put milk sugar, butter and egg yolks in double boiler and cook until thick.
- Add coconut and pecans and stir well.
- Spread between layers and on top and sides after layers are cool.
