    Best Apple Pie

    List of Ingredients

    6 cups thinly sliced Granny Smith apples
    3/4 cup granulated sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 cup flour or cornstarch
    2 Tblsp. butter, cut into small pieces
    1 tsp. apple pie spice
    1 recipe pastry for a 9-inch double crust pie
    1 egg or 2 Tblsp. milk (Optional)



    Recipe

    Prepare your pastry for a two-crust pie. Wash, peel, core, and slice apples; measure to 6 cups. Combine sugar, apple pie spice, salt, and flour or cornstarch. Place apples in pastry-lined pie plate. Sprinkle with sugar mixture. Dot top layer with small pieces of butter or margarine. Cover with top crust. Cut vent holes in top crust with sharp knife and discard. Brush with beaten egg or milk for shiny crust � you can also sprinkle with sugar for crunchiness. Place on lowest rack in oven preheated to 450�F. Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 350� F. and bake for 30 to 35 minutes longer. Serve warm or cold.
