    Smoky Gouda-Sauced Broccoli - e-w

    Serves: 6

    1-1/2 lb. broccoli; cut into spears
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1 tsp. bottles minced garlic
    1 T. butter
    2 T. flour
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. black pepper
    1-1/2 c. fat-free milk
    3/4 c. shredded smoked Gouda cheese (3-oz.)
    3/4 c. soft bread crumbs (1 slice)
    2 tsp. butter, melted

    Preheat oven to 425�. Place steamer basket in large saucepan. Add water to just below bottom of steamer basket. Bring water to boiling. Add broccoli to basket; reduce heat. . Cover and steam for 6-8 minutes or just until tender.

    Meanwhile for sauce: In medium saucepan, cook onion and garlic in 1 T. hot butter over medium heat until tender. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Slowly stir in milk. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Slowly add Gouda cheese, stirring until melted.

    Transfer broccoli to 1-1/2 qt au gratin dish � or � 2 qt. square baking dish. Pour sauce over broccoli. In small bowl, combine bread crumbs and 2 tsp. melted butter; toss gently to coat. Sprinkle crumb mixture over sauce. Bake about 15 minutes or until crumbs are lightly browned.
