    Shortcake for Strawberries

    List of Ingredients


    • 2 cups flour
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 1 tbsp. baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp. salt
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 1 beaten egg
    • 2/3 cup cream


    Instructions


    1. Sift dry ingredients together; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    2. Combine egg and cream; add all at once to dry ingredients and stir only enough to moisten.
    3. Turn out on lightly floured surface and knead just enough to bind it together, about 30 seconds.
    4. Press out about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick and cut out cakes with a sharp cutter - do not twist as you cut.
    5. Bake on ungreased baking sheet about 10 minutes at 450F, or until golden.


    Final Comments


    If you like your shortcake less sweet, cut the sugar in half.
