    Winn Shuler Crock

    Source of Recipe

    Ft. Lauderdale newspaper

    Recipe Introduction

Q: Back in the `60s or maybe even the `50s I used to make a cheese ball with Velveeta and horseradish and I'm not sure what else. I know it sounds awful, but it was really good for cocktail parties and it kept forever.

A: I found the recipe here in Sugar Beach by the Fort Walton Beach (Fla.) Junior League; I have no idea why it's called Winn Shuler crock.

I halved the recipe when I tested it, doubting my family would eat it. I was wrong - my teenage son and his friends thought it was great.

    List of Ingredients

    1-1 / 2 pounds Velveeta cheese
    1 cup unsalted butter
    2 teaspoons onion juice
    1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese
    2/3 cup horseradish
    Red and yellow food coloring

    Recipe

Heat the cheese, butter, onion juice, cream cheese and horseradish in a double boiler until melted. (Or place in a glass bowl and microwave on 50 percent power for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.) Beat with electric mixer for 3 minutes, adding 2 drops red food coloring and 1 drop yellow food coloring. Place in a deep dish or crock and cool in refrigerator. Serve with crackers. Makes about 4 cups.
