    Recipe Introduction

This is one of my favorites. I save the leftover hambones from my spiral hams and freeze. I use those for my split pea soup and ham bean soup. It's delicious!

    List of Ingredients

    1 Ham bone
    5 quarts of water
    2 chicken bouillon cubes
    1 onion, chopped
    1 rib celery, sliced
    2 carrots , sliced
1 lb. bag of dry split peas
    1 tsp. oregano
    1 tsp. basil
    2 bay leaces
    1 tsp. parsley

    Recipe

Rinse and drain the split peas. Place the drained split peas, onion, celery and carrots into the crock pot. Add the ham bone and 2 bouillon cubes. Add the 5 quarts of water. Now add the oregano, basil, parsley and bay leaves. Cover. Cook on low for 8 hours. I check after 4 hours and give it a stir. At the end of the 8 hours I remove the hambone and stir again. I cut off all the meat from the bone into bite sized pieces and return to crock pot. Give it another good stir and then laddle into individual soup bowls. I like to toast my own croutons. I serve them as a side for anyone who would like to add a few t the top of their soup. This is delicious! Freezes well too! Enjoy
