    Old-Time Penuche

    My daughter Rebecca's favorite


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 pounds brown sugar
    • 1 cup evaporated milk
    • 1/4 pound butter
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 2 cups chopped walnuts


    Instructions


    1. Mix brown sugar, milk, butter, salt and corn syrup. Cook, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Continue cooking to soft ball stage (238�F.) Remove from heat.
    2. Place pan in a sink with cold water and beat until it starts to thicken. Stir in nuts and vanilla and beat until it loses it's gloss. Immediately pour into a 9"x9" buttered baking pan. When firm cut into squares.
    3. Makes 3 pounds.
