    Almond-Chocolate Chip Cake

    1/2 cup butter or margarine softened
    2 cups self-rising flour
    1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
    3/4 cup slivered almonds
    1/2 cup semisweet chocolate morsels
    1 egg lightly beaten
    1 egg separated
    1/3 cup milk
    1/2 cup slivered almonds
    1/2 cup grated sweet chocolate

    Preheat oven to 350�F.� Spray a 9x5-inch loaf pan with non-stick vegetable spray. In a large mixing bowl, cut butter into flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.� Add sugar, almonds, chocolate morsels, egg, egg yolk, and milk; stir until mixture is well blended.� Spoon into prepared loaf pan; smooth the top.� Brush the top with egg white; sprinkle with almonds.
    Bake for 1 hour or until the cake pulls away from the sides of the pan and feels firm to the touch.� Sprinkle grated chocolate over the top of the hot cake.� Cool in pan for 10 minutes.� Remove from pan; cool completely on a wire rack.
