Recipe Introduction
"This bold sauce is decidedly spicy, thanks to a generous dose of Tabasco sauce added to the base. If you like your food even better, substitute a spicier hot sauce for the Tabasco. Use this with grilled chicken, fried chicken wings, barbecued ribs, or pulled pork."
List of Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
1 cup canned tomato pur�e
3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
� cup fresh lemon juice
� cup firmly packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons Tabasco sauce
� teaspoon each ground allspice and ginger
Salt and ground pepper
Recipe
In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the oil. Add the onion and saut� until golden, about 10 minutes.
Add the tomato pur�e, mustard, lemon juice, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, allspice, ginger, and � cup water to the pan and season with salt and pepper. Bring the sauce to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and simmer gently, uncovered, until reduced and thickened, 5 to 10 minutes.
Use the sauce right away, or let cool, cover, and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Makes about 2 cups
