    The saffron and fruit flavor of this bread is totally English; the hot-roll-mix shortcut is totally American.

    6oz. pkg. mixed dried fruit bits
    1/4 cup apple juice
    16oz. pkg. hot roll mix
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1/8 tsp. ground saffron
    1 recipe Apple Juice Icing (recipe below)

    Apple Juice Icing:
    1 cup sifted powdered sugar
    1 to 2 tablespoons apple juice


    1. In a small bowl combine fruit and apple juice. Let stand for 5 minutes, stirring twice.

    2. Prepare roll mix according to package directions, except add sugar and saffron along with the flour mixture. Drain fruit, if necessary; discard excess liquid. Stir fruit into the dough before kneading.

    3. On a lightly floured surface, form dough into an 18-inch rope on a lightly floured surface. Place in greased 10-inch fluted tube pan, pressing ends together. (Make sure therope is evenly thick.) Cover; let rise according to roll mix package directions.

    4. Bake in a 375 F. oven 20 to 25 minutes or till golden brown. Invert onto a wirerack; cool. Drizzle with Apple Juice Icing. Makes 12 servings.

    Apple Juice Icing: In a small mixing bowl stir together 1 cup sifted powdered sugar and 1 to 2 tablespoons apple juice to make an icing of drizzling consistency. Makes about 1/3 cup.
