    Traditional Bread Sticks

Put these in a vase shaped basket, or a tall vase, and your pasta party will be a hit, even if you've burned the sauce.

    List of Ingredients

    • 3 to 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
    • 1 tablespoon dry yeast
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
    • 1 1/4 cup hot water (125 F)

    Instructions

    1. Combine 1 cup flour, yeast, sugar and salt in heavy-duty mixing bowl
    2. Blend in oil
    3. Add water and beat until well blended, about 2 minutes
    4. Gradually beat in enough of remaining flour to make a soft, but not sticky dough.
    5. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 1 minute
    6. Remove oven racks and line with foil; grease foil.
    7. Divide dough in half
    8. Roll each log into a 10- inch log. Cut log into 1- inch pieces. Cut each piece in half.
    9. Repeat with remaining dough.
    10. Roll each piece into 14-inch stick
    11. Arrange on prepared foil
    12. Preheat oven to 300F
    13. Let rise in warm draft-free area until light and puffy, about 25 minutes.
    14. Slide racks into center position of oven. Bake bread sticks until golden brown, about 45 minutes.
