    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
    Reduce heat to 300 degrees.
    Makes 4 dozen.

    List of Ingredients




    * 1 cup vegetable oil
    * 2 cups white sugar
    * 6 cups all-purpose flour
    * 6 eggs
    * 1 tablespoon + 1 tsp baking powder
    * 1 tablespoon anise extract
    * 1/2 C finely ground hazelnuts




    Recipe



    1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets or line with parchment paper.
    2. In a medium bowl, beat together the oil, eggs, sugar and anise flavoring until well blended. Combine the flour and baking powder, stir into the egg mixture to form a heavy dough. Divide dough into two pieces. Form each piece into a roll as long as your cookie sheet. Place roll onto the prepared cookie sheet, and press down to 1/2 inch thickness.
    3. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown. Remove from the baking sheet to cool on a wire rack. When The cookies are cool enough to handle, slice each one crosswise into 1/2 inch slices. Arrange cookie slices upright and slightly apart on baking sheet. Bake for an additional 20-30 minutes in a 300 degree F. oven. Cool on pan on a rack 5 minutes. remove from pan and cool completely.

    Var;
    You can also add 1/8 tsp ginger and 1 tsp grated orange peel.
    Or use 3/4 C finely ground almonds and 3/4 c whole almonds 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/3 C honey. And vanilla extract.
    Or use sliced almonds and 1/4 C unsweetened cocoa, 1 T cinnamon, 1/4 tsp grated nutmeg and 1/4 C dried cranberries.
    Or 1 C ground almonds and 2/3 C dried cherries.
    Or use walnuts in place of other nuts.
    or try brown sugar for half the sugar, and butterscotch extract, a dash of salt and pecans
