Polenta and sausages

List of Ingredients
3 C polenta, divided
6 C water
1 pound link sausage
grated cheese
1 T fat or butter
1 T flour
1/2 C stock
2 pounds peeled tomatoes
2 onions, minced
1 bay leaf
pinch oregano or thyme
2 whole clovesRecipe
Add 1 1/2 C polenta to the boiling water, stir constantly, gradually add more till the remaining 1 1/2 cups is used. Stir constantly. When it goes "pouf", cover and turn off heat.
Parboil the sausages in a little water until water is gone. Brown sausages.
Pour polenta into a shallow baking dish and cool until set.Cut the polenta into 1 inch cubes. Cut up the sausages. Alternately layer the polenta and sausages. top with cheese. Make a sauce of remaining ingredients and pour it over the polenta. Add more cheese. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 1 1/2 hours.
Var;
1 C dry wine, added before sauce is poured over. Chop parsley into sauce. Thinly sliced, steamed zucchini may be layered with sausage and polenta.
