    TollHouse 4 Layer Cake

    Recipe Introduction

This is a recipe I got many years ago from a Nestle Cook Book. My family requests this frequently. It is a very rich cake and goes a long way.

    List of Ingredients

    • ****Cake****
    • 1 Cup Butter
    • 1 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
    • 2/3 Cup Sugar
    • 4 Eggs
    • 2 tsp. vanilla
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 2 Cups Flour
    • 1 Cup Mini Chocolate Chips
    • ****Frosting****
    • 1 Cup Chocolate Chips
    • 1 Cup Butter
    • 2 Cups Confectioner Sugar
    • 2 tsp. vanilla

    Instructions

    1. FOR THE CAKE--- Preheat oven to 350. Grease bottom of a 16 x 11 cookie sheet. Line with wax paper

    2. In large bowl combine butter and sugars mix til creamy.

    3. Add eggs 1 at a time. Beat well and add vanilla and salt.

    4. Gradually add flour. Stir in Chocolate chips.

    5. Spread evenly onto prepared pan

    6. Bake for 20 - 25 min COOL completely.

    7. FOR THE FROSTING---

    8. Melt 1 cup chocolate chips til smooth.

    9. In bowl combine butter and confectioner sugar til creamy. Add vanilla & melted chocolate. Blend til smooth

    10. ASSEMBLE CAKE---

    11. Loosen cake and invert onto a board or a floured towel. Trim the edges. Cut cake into 4 equal pieces.

    12. Assemble into layers with the frosting

    Final Comments

This makes a loaf shaped cake. I increased the frosting from the original recipe since the 1st time I made this there wasn't enough frosting to do the whole cake. The frosting recipe above is the perfect amount to have nice layers of frosting and enough left to frost the entire outside of the cake.
