    1/2 cup butter -- softened
    1 cup brown sugar -- firmly packed
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1 egg -- well beaten
    1 cup flour
    1/2 cup walnuts -- chopped

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

    Lightly grease two cookie sheets. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add salt. Add egg; beat well. Add flour; mix until smooth. Fold in walnuts. Drop dough by teaspoon onto prepared cookie sheets; allow 3 inches between drops. Bake 10 minutes. Let cookies cool 5 minutes on cookie sheet before carefully removing with a wide spatula to a cooling rack. Makes 2 dozen.

    Note: Altitude affects this recipe resulting in a thicker, less airy cookie.
