    Maple Sausage Apple Sesame Braid

    Source of Recipe

    Patty R.

    List of Ingredients

12 oz. pkg Jimmy Dean Maple Pork Sausage
    1/4 c. maple syrup
4 eggs, beaten (2 for filling, 2 for egg wash)
    1/2 c. sliced green onions
4 apples peeled, cored and finely chopped
1 1/2 c. herb stuffing mix (used Pepperidge Farm)
17 1/4. oz pkg fz. puff pastry (2 sheets Pepperidge Farm defrosted takes 30-45 min.)
    2 tbl. sesame seeds

    Recipe

Pre heat oven to 400 degrees. Use 15 1/2 X 10 jelly roll pan.
Prepare in a lg. bowl, combine uncooked sausage, syrup, 2 eggs, green onion, apples and stuffing mix. Set. aside. Roll out both pastry sheets to 18X14 rectangle on floured board. Brush off excess flour; if you leave on flour dust your pastry will be tough. Divide and spoon sausage mixture down center of each pastry. Braid pastry, by cutting 1" wide strips on either side of mixture, brush edges with egg wash lift 3 inch strips over the top of stuffing and twist, alternating sides of the pastry, until filling is completely enclosed. Brush all over with remaining beaten eggs. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake for 30 minutes or until golden.
Note: If you don't need both braids, you can freeze them at this point. Wrap well in plastic wrap, then foil and put in zip lock. Also, this recipe is a great one to do 1-2 weeks ahead of a big brunch. Day of the party just preheat oven to 400 degrees and bake frozen braid for 30 minutes, then turn down oven to 300 degrees and cook for 10-15 minutes mor until center is warm. Test with toothpick... should be warm.
