    Sister Ann's Ranger Cookies

    Source of Recipe

    St. Louis Post-Dispatch Food Section

    Recipe Introduction

In the early 70's the Post had a Christmas cookie section that included this recipe. I don't like coconut, but thought that I'd make these for my family. Well, you don't taste the coconut, but it makes these cookies crisp and chewy at the same time. It also makes them one of my favorite Christmas treats.

    List of Ingredients

1 c, solid shortening or butter (1/2 each is great)
    1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    1 t. vanilla
    2 c. flour
    1 t. salt
    1 t. baking soda
    1 c. Rice Krispies
    1 c. dry oatmeal
    1 c. shredded coconut
    1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)
    1/2 to 3/4 c. raisins

    Recipe

Cream together first 5 ingredients in bowl and set aside. Sift together flour, salt and baking soda. Combine with creamed mixture. Add rice ceral, oats, coconut, nuts and raisins. Chill dougth several hours. Drop by teaspoonsful onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees 12-15 minutes. Makes about 7 dozen cookies.
