    Fried Chicken

    Source of Recipe

    Recipe Introduction

"My mother taught me to fry chicken at a very young age. She used to buy whole chickens and cut them up. I just buy legs and wings." grandpa2one

    List of Ingredients

    Buttermilk
    garlic powder
    pepper
    salt
flour or bisquick (I prefer flour)
    Oil

    Recipe

Rinse chicken and remove skin..(if you prefer) or you can leave it on.

In a large bowl, pour buttermilk over chicken parts to cover. Cover with foil or lid and place in fridge for 8 hours or overnight. Overnight is better for large pieces of chicken such as breast.

In a large freezer bag put 2 cups or more of flour.
garlic powder, pepper, salt. (as much or as little as you like, depends on how spicy you like it.) I use about a tablespoon of garlic, pepper, and not much salt. You can add salt to taste after chicken is done.

Lay chicken pieces on a wire rack to drain buttermilk then place in bag and shake to cover.

In a large iron skillet, or other frying pan, heat oil until a drop of water stops popping. Oil is hot enough.

Place chicken in oil and fry on one side about 10 minutes and then on the other side about the same. After the 20 minutes turn chicken more often to brown on all sides. Smaller pieces like wings will take less time, so add them about 5-7 minutes later. At this point, you can reduce heat a little but make sure it is still frying.

Chicken fries to a golden brown and is moist on the inside.
