ground/stuffed - Stuffed Sage Bell Peppers

6 green bell peppers, stemmed, cored, seeded, left whole
    1 pound lean ground beef
1, 16 ounce can tomato sauce
    1 cup dry bread crumbs
    1 teaspoon salt
    3/4 teaspoon crushed dried sage
    1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
    1 Tablespoon onion, chopped

Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Place large saucepan of water on stovetop to boil.
Drop green peppers into boiling water for 5 minutes.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain; set aside.
In a skillet brown ground beef.
    Drain excess fat.
Stir in tomato sauce, dry bread crumbs, salt, sage, pepper and
    chopped onion.
Cook mixture for 10 minutes or until mixture is thoroughly heated.
Spoon the meat mixture into the bell peppers; stand peppers upright
in a baking dish (see NOTE).
Bake for 40 minutes covered, uncover and cook another 15 minutes.
    Makes 6 servings.

    note:
A 2 1/2 to 3 quart baking dish or an 11x7x2 inch baking dish would
be good sizes. If dish has no lid, cover with aluminum foil.
