    2 c. sifted flour
    4 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tbsp. sugar
    3 tbsp. shortening
    1 c. milk
    1 c. fruit, (such as seeded grapes or berries)

    Recipe



    Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together.
    Cut in shortening.
    Add milk, stirring quickly to make a stiff dough.
    Stir in fruit.
    Drop from a tablespoon into rapidly boiling salted water.
    Cover and cook 12 minutes.
    Drain and serve, with any desired sauce.
    Makes 6 servings.

    Variations:
    Maple Dumplings: Use fruit Dumpling recipe, omitting fruit; cook in syrup made of 2 c. maple syrup and 1 c. water.
    Serve Dumplings with syrup as sauce.

    Quince Dumplings:
    Use fruit Dumpling recipe, omitting fruit.
    Fill muffin pans half full of quince sauce or preserves and drop dumplings mixture on top.

    Bake in 425 oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or steam in steamer
    for 15 minutes.
    Serve with or without lemon sauce.
