    List of Ingredients

    1 1/4 cups flour
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup shortening
    4 tablespoons + 2 cups water, separated
    1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
    1 cup white granulated sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    2 tablespoons butter

    Recipe

Stir together the flour, salt. Then cut in the shortening to make crumbs.
Add the 4 tablespoons water and mix into a pastry dough. Divide the
dough into 3 parts. Roll each into a sheet that is 1/2 inch thick. Cut each
pastry sheet into 1 inch wide strips. Set aside.
Mix the 2 cups water, vinegar, sugar and vanilla together in a small
Dutch oven type pot or a small stockpot. Bring to a boil.
Drop pastry strips into the mixture until 2/3's of the strips are used.
Remove the pot from the heat.
Use the last 1/3 of the pastry strips and make a criss cross over the top.
Dot with the butter. Bake at 375 degrees F until the top is brown.
Cut in small pieces to serve.
