    Royal Frosting, (sets up hard)

    Source of Recipe

from an unnamed a homefireshearth reader

    Recipe Introduction

The frosting that sets up hard, at least in Arizona climate, is called Royal
Frosting. I use it on sugar cookies, too. It's almost like a candy topping.
Unlike some egg white-based frostings, you don't have to cook a syrup first.Royal Frosting (from Fannie Farmer Cookbook)
    Royal Frosting (sets up hard)

    1 cup powdered confectioners sugar
    1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
    1 egg white
    1/3 cup boiling water
    color and flavor, if desired

Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Add the boiling water.
Beat at high speed for 6 to 10 minutes until the frosting
is thick enough to stand in peaks.
