Cherry Nut Ribbon Bread

For the filling:
6 ounces cream cheese, soft
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon flour
For the bread:
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, soft
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/4 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup cherry juice
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 cup maraschino cherries, chopped
Recipe
Blend filling cream cheese, sugar, egg and flour until smooth and set aside. Cream bread butter, sugar and eggs. Combine dry ingredients. Mix buttermilk, juice and vanilla. Add dry ingredients to creamed butter mixture, alternating with cherry juice mixture, just until flour is moistened. Fold in pecans and maraschino cherries. Pour one-fourth of batter into two greased loaf pans. Spoon cream cheese filling over batter. Add remaining batter, spreading to cover filling.
Bake 50 to 60 minutes at 325 degrees, until toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes and remove from pans. May drizzle with powdered sugar icing. Store in refrigerator.
