Cathy's Bread Sticks
List of Ingredients
1 1/3 c. water
1 T. margarine or butter
1 1/2 T. sugar
1 1/2 t. salt
4 c. bread flour
2 t. yeast
glaze: 1 egg white mixed with 1 T. water
Recipe
Cut dough into small egg-sized pieces and roll them into ropes.
Cover and let rise 20 min. Brush each one with glaze. Sprinkle with
salt or seeds. Bake in a preheated 400* oven for 15 min. or until
golden brown. The shorter the baking time, the softer they are; the
longer the baking time; the crunchier.
Now for my variation-
I decide to roll out the dough in a circle about 3/8 in. thick and
cut
the dough into 1 1/2" strips to save time. I sprayed the cookie
sheets with oil, and placed each strip about 1/2 inch apart. They
rose for about 20 min. and they were popped into the oven for baking.
I made a mixture of margarine, 3 garlic cloves crushed, and a
sprinkle
of salt. When they came out of the oven, I used a pastry brush to
coat each side with the butter/garlic mixture, and then tossed them
in
parmesan cheese. Note: I omited the glaze above.
